Superior: The Commemorative Air Force’s Lake Superior Squadron is hosting a “12 Christmas Aircraft” fundraiser to overhaul the R1830 engines of its PBY Catalina, an amphibious aircraft that was used during World War II for bombing missions, observation, reconnaissance and rescue. Superior: Christmas Corner, a Christmas exhibit at 2101 E. Third St., will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, visits with Santa Claus, free gifts for children up to 10 years old and a little something for older children. Children can also drop off letters to Santa Claus in a large post box on site until December 14. If a return address is left, they will receive a letter from Santa in return. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Entrants will paint a whimsical Frosty the Snowman with their favorite dog or cat on a 12×16 canvas. The cost to participate is $40 and includes all supplies. Entrants can order food and drink from Aces at their own expense to enjoy while they paint. Proceeds from the event will benefit the humanitarian society. Limited places are available.
